Definitions of terms you will see in the NM WCA Electronic Case Filing System and in this user guide.
| Term | Definition |

| Clerk of court | The WCA official who reviews registrations, e-filings, and pleadings and accepts or rejects them. You receive emails when your submission is accepted or rejected. |
| EDI | Electronic Data Interchange. A way injury/claim data is submitted to the system. The Fetch EDI Details step in e-filing lets you search for existing injury records to link to your filing. |
| E-filing | Electronic filing. Submitting a case or document through the portal instead of on paper. |
| Entry of Appearance | The process of adding yourself as a party to a case so you can view it and file pleadings. You submit an Entry of Appearance document (or similar) and the clerk must accept it. |
| JCN | Jurisdiction Claim Number. A unique identifier for an injury claim in the WCA system. Shown when you search on the Fetch EDI Details screen. |
| MMI | Maximum Medical Improvement. A medical determination that the worker's condition has reached the maximum level of improvement. Used in some filing sections. |
| My MS Cases | The section of the portal that lists MS cases where you are a party (similar to My WCA Cases). |
| My WCA Cases | Workers' Compensation Administration cases. The section of the portal that lists WCA cases where you are a party. |
| Attorney or representative | An attorney or other representative who acts on behalf of a party (for example, employer representative or carrier staff). These users can create new e-filings; self-represented users have limited access. |
| Pleading | A document filed in a case (e.g., motion, Entry of Appearance). After your e-filing is accepted, you add pleadings via the Pleadings tab. |
| Self-represented user (pro se) | A user representing themselves (e.g., a worker without an attorney). Self-represented users typically cannot use the full E-Filing flow to create new filings. |
| WCA | Workers' Compensation Administration. The New Mexico state body that runs the portal and reviews filings. |
| WCA Case Number | Unique case identifier assigned by the Workers' Compensation Administration (e.g., WCA25-00141). Used to search and open cases. |
